Artist’s Statement

Mainly I paint what I see and increasingly have become a plein-air painter and a colourist in the tradition of my Scottish forefathers. Colour is my first love and I paint to revel in the sheer joy it brings.

For me the main interest is not necessarily the subject but the transformation of the surface through the use of colour and manipulation of paint to produce a personal version of reality.

IHaving made brief forays into the world of contemporary art and although  finding it interesting, it does not provide the satisfaction I feel when confronted with  the challenge of interpreting the object which confronts me.
